Event Time:

5:00 pm

Event Location:

Event Description

Are you passionate about diving, marine life, underwater photography, and giving back to your local environment? The Edithburgh & Wool Bay Jetties Marine Watch program is seeking volunteer citizen scientists to help monitor underwater ecosystems at two of South Australia’s most iconic dive sites from September 2025 to June 2027.

Divers and underwater photographers of all experience levels are welcome. Volunteers will photograph designated jetty piles and seabed quadrats, with images processed into 3D models to track environmental change. A second daily dive focuses on capturing marine species for biodiversity monitoring, with images uploaded to iNaturalist.

Most camera systems are suitable, including compact cameras, action cameras, and smartphone setups. Video lights are required for consistent image quality, and a limited number are available to borrow. Briefings and photography guidance are provided to ensure consistency.

Volunteers also benefit from affordable shared accommodation, breakfast, a Saturday night BBQ, and partial reimbursement for fuel and air fills. This is a great opportunity to contribute to marine conservation while connecting with a like-minded dive community.
